September’s L A Cinema screening is the acclaimed historical drama The Favourite, which received several film nominations. The film also earned British actress Olivia Coleman ‘Best Actress’ at the Oscar’s, BAFTA’s and Golden Globe’s for her portrayal as Queen Anne.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Lobster), The Favourite is set in early 18th century England. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Coleman), occupies the throne and her close friend, Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz), governs the country in her stead. When a new servant, Abigail (Emma Stone), arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah.
